PROFIT 100 PER CENT?

GIEN EDEN WATER SUPPLY. CITY COUNCILLOR'S COMMENT. Mr. E. J. Phelan, a member of the Auckland City Council, informed a representative of tlio "Star" this morning that a number of residents of Glon Eden had complained to him that the town board was charging' them 2/G per 1000 gallons for water, which they considered exorbitant. "On investigation," said Mr. Phelan, "I found that the Glen Eden Town Board is being supplied by the City Council at 1/3 per 1000 gallons, and they are apparently retailing the water at a profit of 100 per cent. I think that in future when the council makes arrangements to supply local bodies a clause should be placed in the agreements limiting the charge that can be made for the supply to householders."
