Professor Lamont, lecturer in French at Pretoria University, Avas tarred and feathered by four men and dumped in the centre of the city clad only in bathing trunks at eleven o'clock in the morning. The outrage arose out of reflections on Afrikanders appearing in a book, "War, Wine and Women," which it is alleged Professor Lamont wrote. "The Soutli African earns big money in the mines while his ignorant, vulgar wife parades the streets in tawdry fineryi" Four young men surrendered to the police.
