ANGRY AFRIKANDERS. Tar and Feathers for Pretoria Professor. DAYLIGHT ATTACK. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12 noon.) CAPETOWN, May 23. Professor Lamont, lecturer in French at Pretoria University, Avas tarred and feathered by four men and dumped in the centre of the city clad only in bathing trunks at eleven o'clock in the morning. The outrage arose out of reflections on Afrikanders appearing in a book, "War, Wine and Women," which it is alleged Professor Lamont wrote. Two examples are as follow: —"The descendants of Voortrekkers are pool whites, utterly degenerate." "The Soutli African earns big money in the mines while his ignorant, vulgar wife parades the streets in tawdry fineryi" Four young men surrendered to the police.
