Japanese General's Death At Shanghai. GIVEN BARONY BY EMPEROR. SHANGHAI, May 23. General Shirakawa, Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese forces at Shanghai, who was injured in the recent bombing outrage in Hongkey Park, died to-day about noon. The Japar. se authorities refrained from announcing his death, stating that the patienL ; r? condition was grave. The Japanese have, however, suspended social functions, but will not announce the death until the body of General Shirakawa is 011 board the cruiser Hirato, which is leaving tomorrow for Tokyo. While 10,000 Japanese troops stood nt tho salute for the singing of the Japanese National Anthem, during a military review at Hongkew Park, Shanghai, on April 29, in honour of the Emperors birthday, two bombs were thrown by Koreans on to the platform on which were seated the principal Japanese officials, including Mr. Mam or u Shigemitsu, Japanese Minister to China; Mr. K. Murai. Japanese Consul-General; General Shirakawa; Admiral Nomura, naval commonder-in-chief; Admiral Shimada, Major-General Teshiro and Mr. Kawabata, ft civilian intelligence officer. Mr. Kawabata received such horrible thigh and abdomen injuries that he died a few days later. Troops surrounded the park and prevented the thousands of spectators leaving. Seven persons were arrested, including the foreign park-keeper, one Chinese and five Koreans. One of the perpetrators, a Korean, was so severely manhandled that subsequently lie died.
