TE AWAMUTU HORSES.

CANDIDATES FOR AVONDALE. TRANSACTION VERY FORWARD. A dense fog yesterday held up training operations for some hours, and the clocking of several of the early morning workers was impossible. However, there was not much doing. The course proper, next to the rails, was available for Avondale candidates and two-year-olds. The others did useful work on the plough and inner grass tracks.

The Course Proper. Nassau Lady, who is working in a useful manner, and her stable companion, Transaction, were hopped away from the three-furlong peg, but owing to the fog weer only timed over two furlongs, which they did in 24 l-ss. Transaction is' in fine fettle and may return a dividend at Avondale. Another Avondale candidate to do nice work was Eager Rose, who placed five furlongs behind in 1.3 l-ss. She was assisted over the final half mile by Arawa Rose, who, if started at Te Kuiti, should show to advantage. Trishna and Kanapa were companions over five furlongs which occupied 1.4 2-5, iboth hitting out nicely. Erination worked very scratchily when placing five furlongs behind in 1.6. This gelding is troubled by the hard tracks.

On the Plough. Shamgar was moving nicely over six furlongs to register 1.21. He seems to be standing up to his work a little better now, and G. Paul has hopes of getting him to the post in the near future. Taurua was allotted three-quarter pace work twice round, and went nicely, as did Leitrim, who covered a like distance. Among others to do pace work on the plough were Emancipation, Awarere, Goodfellow, King's _ Knave, Marechal, Soloist, Chateau, Limeen and Bischoff. Limeen has lightened up considerably since racing at Ellerslie, and appeared to be very sore. Two-year-olds to do jogging exercise were the High Art—Baby. Doll colt, the Diacquenod—Finelli filly, the Gay Shield — Boyne mare filly, and the Musketoon— Arch Quill gelding. These youngsters are all settling down to their work, and all look promising.

Departures for Avondale to-day are:— A. Rowan, Transaction; W. Alexander, Eager Rose; R. Savage, Erination. J. Paul will not .be leaving until next week with his charges.
