UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.
THE RATIONING SCHEME
In consequence of representations made to him in the Mount. Roskill district, Mr. G. C. Munns telegraphed to the Unemployment Board suggesting that its members ehould visit Auckland, as the position in regard to unemployment was Very serious. He asked for an explanation of the new rationing principle connected with No. 5 scheme. Mr. W. J Holdeworth also telegraphed the board, pointing out that the new instructions were causing great hardship to men under No. 5 scheme. The board sent the following telegram to Mr. Munns on Saturday: — "Replying your wires yesterday suggesting visit Auckland will be considered by board earliest opportunity. Application rationing scale and stand-down period in hands of certifying-offieer; board'does not interfere."
In reply to his telegram, Mr. Holdsworth -was informed by Mr. Coates: "Have received your telegram regarding unemployment, and: *'ie matter has been referred ! to board'for every possible consideration. I hope next week to make statement indicating what special relief may be granted for Christmas."
