ST. LUKE'S, REMUERA.

FOUNDATION STONE LAID

The foundation stone -of the new St. Luke's Presbyteria'n Church, Remuera, was laid on Saturday afternoon by Miss Sarah Dingwall, one of the foundation members of the congregation and closely connected with the church -during its existence of. 50 years. In telling'of the history of the new building, the minister, • the Rev. J. A. Thomson, said the idea started with the first minister, the Rev. G. B. Monroe, who left a legacy of £500. In 1928 came an anonymous gift of- £500, in the same year Mr. John- Marshall gave £1000, and in. October of that year a scheme to raise £1,5,000 was, launched. At present the fund stood ■ at a ! bout £8000. The" contract price-was approximately £13,000j and two of the partners of the-contractors for the new building, Messrs. W. J. Fletcher and J. Fletcher, had le'nt the balance of £0000 for five years free. of interest. This had enabled the church 'authorities to start a year before programme time. The dedication prayer at the ceremony was said by,the Rev. G. Budd, and greetings from the Presbytery were conveyed by Mr. S. J. Harbutt.
