GARDEN FETE.

In beautiful weather and midst lovely surroundings a very successful garden fete was held in the grounds of Mrs. T. Buxton's home, Owens Koad, Epsoin. on Saturday afternoon, by the members of the Catlidlic Women's League. A more perfect day could not have been chosen. The warm sun shone from a clear sky and ■while not purchasing at the stalls the guests were, able to wander along the shady paths and seek the cool shelter from trees in the garden. The stalls were erected on the edge of the tennis lawn and were protected from the sun's glare by the beautiful trees which overhung. The gardens on cither side were brilliant with flowers. Canterbury bells nodded .by tall delphinium spikes and golden pansiee made "colourful little borders. The bright green of the surrounding lawns formed a fitting setting for the glory of the flo Aver beds. The function was opened during the afternoon by Bishop Lieton, who was introduced by the president of the league, Mrs. J. J. O'Brien. Bishop Liston spoke of the necessity of raising funds for the league and said that the proceeds of the garden fete would be divided between the Catholic Women's League and charities. On their arrival the guests were received by Mrs. Buxton on the front drive. She wore a frock of bottle green ring- velvet with a black balli'buntal hat. Mrs. <J. J. O'Brien was in black crepe d'e chine with black Bangkok hat. Afternoon tea was served on the verandah, and on a small lawn at the side there was a tall Christmas tree laden with toys and such novelties as are dear to children's hearts. Gramophone music added to the enjoyment, the strains of which were to be heard from all parts of the garden. The stallholders were as follows: Sweet stall and ice creams, Mesdames C. Eeid and P. J. Delaney, assisted by Mesdames Beddoes, Reid, C. Delaney, Coleman, Francis, Fraeer, Misses Nolan,. Delaney, M. and N. Treston, June Garland and Estcllo Boucher; cake and produce, Mrs. Fouhy and Mies Fitzpatrick, assisted by Mesdames J. Wright, McLean, Lloyd and Garland; novelty (toyland), Miss Fogarty, assisted by Misses Hall, and N. and M. Missen; novelty stall, Mesdames Cruiekshank and Hugh Wright, assisted by Mrs. Rowles and Mies Mulvany; afternoon tea, members of the house committee, assisted by Mesdames Pilling, C. H. Drysdale, Hugh Maguire, Brodie, Misses Brodie, Browne, Drysdale, M. Hargreaves and Johansen; Christmas tree, Miss P. Flynn, assisted by Misses N. Flynn, Gwen Letton, Cork and O'Malley; mystery tent, Miss Bryant, assisted by Misses Halpin, Long, McElwain and Pickering. The fete was organised by the council, of which Mrs. J. J. O'Brien is president, Miss "Walsh secretary, and Mrs. O'Nell treasurer, and the proceeds amounted to over £50.
