WANDERING ROUND HOUSE.
MAN REMANDED FOR WEEK.
FOUND NEAR ORAIvEI,
Charged with being on enclosed premises at 29, Victoria Avenue, Remuera, last evening, in circumstances which did not disclose the commission of or intention to commit any other offence, a labourer, Edward John Bogue, aged 37, was remanded for a week by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning.
Bogue pleaded not guilty. Constable Henry said he had received a complaint from the residents at 29, Victoria Avenue, that a man was wandering round the premises. Accused admitted he had been there and did not reply when asked why he had not knocked at the door. He was under the influence of liquor.
Accused's explanation was that he was out looking for work and had gone to the house to get a drink of water.
Staff Captain Holmes suggested that he be remanded for two days, and the Salvation Army would then be able to do something for him.
The magistrate, however, remanded Bogue for a week.
Clement Joseph Skelly, a bushman and labourer, aged 47, who was found with Bogue last evening, pleaded not guilty to a charge of being idle and disorderly with insufficient means of support.
Constable Henry said he had found both men on a bridge near Orakei. Skelly did not have any money. He was quite sober.
Skelly was remanded for a week i'n the care of the Salvation Army.
