RIDER FINED £5. (From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAHUHU, this day. William Taylor, Wiri, appeared before Messrs. G. W.'Venables and C. R. Petrie, J.P.'e, at the Otahuhu Police Court this morning charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor cycle. Sergeant Rowells said that Constable Archibald saw defendant having trouble in starting his cycle, and when he moved off, his course was very erratic. The constable followed him on a bus, and found that he had crashed into another cyclist, damaging the machine and injuring the rider. Although he wag not very drunk he had taken too much liquor. Mr. R. W. P. Woods, who appeared for defendant, pleaded guilty. Counsel said he was recovering from influenza, and very little liquor was sufficient to impair his judgment. He was out of work, and was under the impression that the other cyclist had no reflector or lights. Hie own battery was running low, and his lighte were dim. The Bench took a serious view of the case, and recorded a conviction with a fine of £5. Defendant's license was cancelled, and he was ordered to pay the cost of repairs to the damaged cycle.
