LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
END OF FIRST ROUND. SHOBE TO PLAY MARIST. KEEN MATCH ANTICIPATED. Two excellent games will be staged at Carlaw Park to-morrow, when the final games of the first round of the Rugby League senior competition will be played. The principal feature is the meeting of the hitherto unbeaten Devonport thirteen, and Marist, the side which is closest on their heels so far as points are concerned. Both sides rely on speedy and enterprising backs to carry them to victory and a battle royal should result between the two sets. With such keen competition in the scoring division it may possibly rest with the forwards to decide the issue. The other match at headquarters will be between Ponsonby and Richmond, who are level on the championship ladder, and the clash should attract almost as much attention as the main game. Out on the Domain City will meet Ellerslie, and victory should rest with the former. Newton has the bye. Reserve grade games will be played as curtain-raisers to the senior matches.
