Several large forests of cedar trees in Europe have been totally consumed by the lead pencil industry. The greatest density of the population in the world is claimed for Bombay, and is only disputed by Agra. The population of Bombay amounts to 760 persons per a«re in certain areas, and in these sections the street area only occupies ore-fourth of the whole. If the entire population massed in the streets for any purpose ; the density would equal 3040 persons per acre.
