STOLE BICYCLE PUMPS.
YOUNG MAN IN COURT
NAME SUPPRESSED,
The theft of a number of bicycle pumps was admitted in the Police Court this morning by a messenger, aged 18, whose name was ordered to be suppressed by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Accused was placed on probation for twelve months. Detective-Sergeant Kelly, who prosecuted, said that while a detective was making inquiries in a pawnshop lie came across accused trying to sell three bicycle pumps. When questioned accused admitted stealing them, and thirteen others, and selling: tliein to various second-hand dealers. About ten of the pumps had been recovered. Mr. Aekins, who represented accused, said he had been out of work and had conceived the plan of getting pocket money by that means. He had spent the money on cigarettes and tobacco. He had been promised a. job on a vessel which was arriving in port shortly.
Mr. Hunt: He won't want a bicycle pump there.
On the advice of the probation officer. Mr. W. R. Campbell, Mr. Hunt admitted accused to probation.
