"RUNNING WILD."
YOUNG MEN PULLED UP. THEFTS OF OVERCOATS. ADMITTED TO PROBATION. "I think everyone should know their names," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court, in refusing to suppress the names of Robert Ernest Mills, aged 18, and George Clifton Ivemp, aged 20, who were each charged with the theft of an overcoat. Both pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Kelly, in outlining the ease for the prosecution, said that on April 4 'both went to a dance hall in Dominion Road. They stayed about a while and when they had gone it was found that two coats had also disappeared. When interviewed by the police, Mills denied the theft of the coats,'but he told Kemp to remove them from the room where they were staying. Mills then told the police to get a search warrant and search the room, but they found nothing. The coats had been removed to a yacht in St. Mary's Bay. Ivemp, said Detective Kelly, was more truthful about the matter and admitted the theft. Counsel for Mills said that his parents went to England two years ago, and he was left in charge of a brother. He left his brother just prior to the offence. Mills was a butcher, and his employer was prepared to take him back. Friends of the family were also prepared to take an interest in him and keep him on the right track. Mr. Hunt: Mr. Campbell will also take an interest in him. Kemp's counsel said his employer had given him a very pood name and wanted to take him back to work. The probation officer, Mr. W. R. Campbell, said that both youths had been in trouble before. Thev were beginning to run wild and needed to be pulled up sharp. Mr. Hunt admitted both to probation for two vcars.
