ANZAC POPPIES.

FORTY THOUSAND FOR SALE.

RETURNED SOLDIERS' NEED.

ANNUAL APPEAL TO-MORROW.

In memoriam poppies, symbolical of the sacrifices that were made on Flanders fields, fJallipoli, Palestine and other war zones, will he on sale in the streets of Auckland to-morrow. They are reminders that Anzac Day, that day of soloing remembrance, is once more at hand. In making its usual appeal to the public, the Returned Soldiers' Association realises that the pinch of adversity is being felt on all sides, but is confident that the usually responsive citizens of Auckland will give freely for a deserving cause. The funds raised by the appeal will be devoted to the Veterans' Home, the Returned Soldiers' Association and to trustees to administer relief to exservicemen and their dependents in the proportions of 10, 15 and 75 per cent, respectively. A feature about this year's distribution of poppies is that the red flowers have all been manufactured in Auckland, whereas in former years they have been imported from England. Nine weeks' work was provided disabled men engaged in their manufacture, and, in addition, the men have been taught a calling from which with industry tliey may mak« a living. Fortv thousand poppies will'm offered for sale in the city and suburbs from, eight o'clock until 6 p.m. to-morrow, and, as usual, a band of women workers, under the supervision of the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, will conduct ,the appeal. The flowcre will be ottered the public in four different varieties, small, intermediate, large and in a form suitable for affixing to the radiators of motor cars. Thirty wreaths have been made for the Returned Soldiers' Association and other organisations, and these w'll be laid on the Cenotaph during the course of the Anzac Day service.
