EMPIRE FARMERS.
TOUR OF BRITAIN. NEW ZEALANDERS ABANDON TRIP. REASONS FOR DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. New Zealand farmers will not participate in this year's visit of Empire farmers to Great Britain. The prevailing financial depression and losses caused by the Hawke's Lay earthquake are responsible for a considerable number of New Zealanders, who had intended making the trip, reversing their decision, and the tour, as far as New Zealand is concerned, is officially abandoned. Parties of Empire farmers from Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand were to have assembled at London on June 1. The itinerary included a tour through the British Isles and visits to Windsor Castle, the Derby, Coveut Garden and other famous places. "Canadian and South African farmers intend to go through with the tour," said Colonel J. Pow, secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, to-day. "Arrangements have been made to hold a series of important conferences during the tour, including one to discuss the question of holding an Empire agricultural conference which had been suggested by New Zealand."
