NO NEED TO BE SHELTERLESS {STATEMENT- BY jlK;.' WALLACE. . "I recognise that there is a great deal of unemployment and hardship amongst girls,'' stated Mr. W. Wallace,chairman ;of the Hospital Board, this inorning, "but. the position is not. as had as it has been painted. While we cannot, under the_ present legislation, discriminate between one class and another, we recognise that something must be done for good girls who are out of work through no fault of their own. We .have, therefore, arranged that girls needing assistance should apply to • the Y.W.C.A., and if that institution is satisfied with their bbna-fides they will he handed over to a woman officer of the Hospital Board who will he at the Y.W.C.A. otlices at stated periods. ; "No gill' needs to wander the streets at night without food or ho added. "If such were the case it would be a grave refl-jctibn on Auckland.-'
