FELT IN PROVINCE.
SEVERE AT PUKEKOHE. NO RECORD OF DAMAGE. MANY TOWNS VISITED. Various parts of the Auckland province were visited bya sharp earthquake shock this afternoon. \ ! In the Pukekohe district it was felt 1 at 1.29 this afternoon. At the,. Puke-' kohe Showground the shock lasted from' 20 to 25 seconds and was . followed! several seconds later by a tremor. .Elec-; trie lamps in the showground luncheon! room began to sway and the crockery: on the tables rattled during the disturbance. Water in tanks also indicated the effect of the 'quake. There was no mistaking the severity 1 of the shock,. and > people who had been ■in the district for more than twelve, years said it was the severest they r had experienced. It appeared to travel in an easterly-westerly direction. Woodville. —Another alarming 'quake occurred, at 1.30 and lasted for nearly half a minute. Damage was done but it was-not serious. "„ Blenheim.—A prolonged 'quake with a swaying motion was-felt at 1.29. The direction was north to south. ./ Other Reports. - Other reports received were as follow: Cambridge.—Pronounced earthquake .'felt here 1.30 this afternoon, lasting ' over' a minute. The visitation was ac-_ ' companied by a rolling motion.Opotiki.—The earthquake was almost ■ of the same intensity as the one last week, but of half the period. It occurred at 1.25 to-day. _ " Puruar—A severe shock lasting ,25 minutes was felt. It commenced ', at j 1.29 p.m., its direction appearing to bi> * north-west to south-east. No damage 'is reported. The weather is cold with ' showers lof rairi and heavy hail. ' '. , Te. Awamntu.—A 'quake of 20 seconds' ' duration occurred at 1.30 p.m. It again ' stopped'the town clock.' Tauranga.—A decided, earthquake at ; about 1.25, lasting two minutes, .'qc--1 curred. It was not sufficiently heavy to cause damage, but people left the shops and stood in the streets. Taupo.—A smart shock of earthquake '. was felt at 1.28 p.m. One. chimney ■ crashed,but'no other damage is reported. Gisborne. —An earthquake lasting about one minute, with a sharp undulat- ' ing motion, was felt at 1.25 p.m., causing a rush to the streets, but no serious damage is reported. Thames. —There was a i short sharp shock at 1.30. pan., equal in severity to that felt last week.
