QUAKE TO-DAY.
SHARP SHOCKS. FELT IN PROVINCE. TOUCH LOST WITH NAPIER. LITTLE DAMAGE REPORTED. SOUTH ISLAND VISITATION. Following a shock which was felt in the South Island this morning, a severe shake, described as equal in severity to that felt'on Tuesday week, is reported from all centres south of Pulcekolie. No serious damage has been done. The telegraph office reported that communication with Napier (through Wellington) was lost at 1.40 p.m., aiid that Gisborne also had lost touch with Xapier. This stoppage was possibly due to simple line trouble, but the position was uncertain. The centre of to-day's disurbance lias not been established. No report has been received that, the shake was felt in Auckland city.
