LONDON BUTTER MARKET.
The Hon. J. B. Donald, recently said: "What Parliament required was some business men." He might have added . our farming community also. Why do not the farmers eliminate the middleman and get right down to dealing direct from producer to consumer? I would suggest a few business men go Home and see that our -products are not manipulated to our detriment as they are. It would not be a difficultmatter to place our butter directly on arrival, in its fresh condition, straight on the market without it ever being connected with Tooley Street at all. The middleman, the banks (at the present silly rate of exchange) could be eliminated by paying all sales in England into the farmers' fund, London. When firms in New Zealand wanted.to pay accounts in England they could pay into the farmers' fund in New Zealand, and the London fund would pay out there. Finally we would abolish the costly Controrßoard here, as they have already cost the farmers thousands of pounds by attempting the most absurd proposition of fighting Tooley Street instead of being business men and evadin." it. Its queer but its true. There is only one way to make some people think, and that is to tighten their belt. R. STEWART.
