BLENHEIM SHOP ENTERED. TWO MEN ESCAPE POLICEMAN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) BLENHEIM, Friday. Two daring thieves were at work in Blenheim in the early hours yesterday, when, after making an unsuccessful attempt to enter a shop in Alfred' Street, they were surprised in the act of collecting articles in premises in Market Street North, occupied by Mr. Clifford McKLay, mercer. They stole £2 .in money, but escaped when disturbed, abandoning the bundles which they had intended to remove. | A constable on night duty saw a light burning in the shop window and investigated. In order to work in comfort the men had switched on a light inside the shop, but, unknown- to them, the switch also operated the lights in the window, which had attracted the constable's attention. When the policeman approached the men fled. They had prepared for a hurried departure by opening the back door as well as the front door, and they escaped through' the backyard of the premises. The attempt to break into the shop in Alfred Street was discovered later in the morning.
