THE AVGNDALE MEETING

THIS MORNING'S WORK.

TRAINISTG AT ELLERSLIE.

FOOT RULE SHAPES WELL.

The weather was fine for training work at EUerslie this morning, _ and there was a fair amount executed, in view of the approaching Avon dale meeting. The course proper, with the poles about 55ft out from the rails, was open, and the No. 3 grass track was also available, the going being heavy.

The Course Proper.

Eager Rose (Wiggins) was sent over a round, running the distance in 2.19. Slip ran her last six furlongs in 1-30 2-5, and was never extended at any part of the journey. Foot Rule and Land Measure covered six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. The former after getting the worst of the start, was a shade in front at the finish. Great Emblem, Red Lion and Sir Mond finished in that order at the end of five furlongs. They ran the first two in 26 2-ss, and completed their task in LlO 4-5. Great Emblem did his work well, and Sir Mond, who was on the outside, also impressed. There was not much between Kawainga and Gold Lily at the finish of a half mile sprint in 55 3-ss. Hannibal (Fergus) went very freely over a round, which he covered in 2.15 3-5. The Fox brought him home over the last five furlongs, finishing several lengths in front, in 1.12 2-5. New Boy shaped nicely while running six furlongs in 1.28. Catoma (Ludlow) and Sub-Editor (Cammick) jumped off at the six-furlong post, running the first three furlongs in 41 2-ss, and the full journey in 126. Both horses shaped nieelv, and there was little between them at the finish, though Catoma pleased most. Gold Money (light boy) and Ruling King (Green) ran six furlongs in 1-28. They were together at the finish, though Gold Money bad to be held back to her companion. Eonnylea sprinted home _ from the three furlongs peg in 41 3-ss. Operatic had to be kicked up to keep with Wild Country at the end of six furlongs, which took 1-26. Llanore was a shade in_ front of Currajong over a similar distance in 1-25 3-5. . Bennie finished in front ot Principal, with Prince Amans beaten oil, over seven furlongs in 1.40 3-5. The first_ three furlongs were traversed in 41 3-os. Gay Cockade, who was past the sevenfurlong post when he jumped-away, ran his first three furlongs in 41 3-5s and completed six furlongs in 1-2-3 2-o. Hamehameha and Lady Lochnar ware about on terms after running their last three furlongs in 42 3-5?. Kamehameha afterwards ran half a mile m ot 4-a. Frot&blower and Sarangapai allotted a six-furlong task, running the first three in 42 3-ss, and finishing up in 1.26 2-5. prothblower was in front when the post was reached. Neil and Tetrachate were together, well in front of Patutahi, who got the best of the start at the five furlongs, in 1-10 1-5. This was the be*t of the morning over that distance. Escalus was allotted an easy six furlong's, but was not after time.

Ho. 3 Grass.

Pnriri Park sprinted three furlongs, but was not timed. ■ Good Idea was timed to ran her last five furlongs in 1.13 2-5, Freyja covered the same ground in 1.1- 3-o-Ladv Court, going very freely, sprinted, home "from the four-furlong post in 525. Royal Menu was given a similar which she accomplished in 52 3-ss. M&nawbenua and Tui about on terms at the end of hall a mile in

l-as. Quincoma, W altzer and Sir -Apcjhc, who were schooled earlier, were in that order at the end of a round which took 1.51 3-5, the last six furlongs taking IJ2S 1-5.

Two-Year-Olds.

Several two-year-olds and maidens, including Royal Gallant, Informant, Herbie, Hawthorne, Milvane and Stimulant were sprinted from a barrier start at the mile post and ran to the fourfurlong peg. Royal Gallant and Informant showed to most advantage, running their first, three furlongs in 40 l-ss, and, easing up, took 55 2-5s for the half mile.

The Jumpers.

Respirator (Burgess) and King Swift (Williams) each gave a safe display over four hurdles.

Diamond Queen (Butler) also shaped well over a couple of fences, and afterwards completed a round on the No. 3 grass, but was not timed.

Quincoma (Sharkey), Waltzer (Olive), Royal Day (Garrett) and Sir Archie (Craddock) were in that order at the end of a schooling bout over four hurdles. Quincoma and Royal Day both jumped well.

Importer (Sharkey) was schooled twice over the steeplechase fences on the flat, giving a first-class display. He has not been up long, but is improving in condition.

Riding Engagements. The following riding engagements have been anounced for the Avondale meeting:—J. Cammick, Frothblower, Sub-Edit or, Bonny Lea and Lady Court; E. Ludlow, Royal Artist, Catoma and Great Emblem (Maiden Plate); E. Garrett, Royal Day: J. F. Fergus, Llanore, Vanessa and Hannibal; H. Gray, Te Hoia, Golden Sceptre, Star Stranger, Lady Quex and Cylinder (Avondale Guineas): H. Wiggins, Eager Rose, Teller and Operatic; T. Green, Chrysology, Commandant, Great Charter, Courtesy, Lady Vane, Seatown and Te Atiawa.
