RETREAT FROM MONS.
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED. "We are here to celebrate the anniversary of the retreat from Moiis,' said Captain J. Dawson, president of the Mons Veterans' Association, which held its third annual dinner on Saturday. Captain Dawson said that those who fought at Mons were a fine set of fellows, who provided a great example to the younger generation; and if the necessity ever arose again to fight, he hoped that they would fight as well as the men at Mons had fought. "We of the regular army are like a family," he said, "and we feel the loss of any members of the family." Mr. N. F. Elliott made a plea for a greater support to the association. It was now in its fifth year, he said, and had overcome all difficulties. It would carry on for many years to come. The toast of the Army, Navy and Air Force was proposed by Sergeant-Major Andrews, and the secretary, Mr. W. C. Pilgrim, proposing that of kindred organisations, said he would like to see them all meet for one combined function each year. , There were some 60 people at the gathering, among the guests being the president of the South African Veterans' Association, Colonel E. F. Eraser, the secretary of the Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr. E. H. Sharp, the president of the Takapuna Ex-Servicemen's Club, Mr. Bryce Hart, and representatives of the White Ensign Association.
