AUCKLAND AMATEUR TITLE. HACKETT DEFEATS RANDRUP. On Saturday, at Messrs. Billiards, Ltd., showrooms, W. E. Hackett defeated H. Randrup in the first semi-final of the Auckland provincial amateur billiards title play for the Billiards, Ltd., Shield. At the outset Hackett recorded a good break of 47, but Randrup swung into the lead with more frequent scoring. He reached the 100 mark first with a lead of 30. When Hackett made a run of 42 (finally, unfortunately, mi selling), lie held the lead until Randrup made a run of 38, which gave him the lead again. He added another of 31, which made his score 201, with Hackett's at 154. Later on Hackett evened the score, however, with, a 32, which caused Randrup to retaliate with a run of 37. Randrup had now a -lead o£ 38, his score being 269. Randrup increased his lead considerably soon after by making breaks of 21 and 29, he then having an advantage of 90 points. Hackett gained ground by making- a red ball break'of 41, and got within twenty points of his opponent's score. A further effort of 43 gained him the lead, but only by a few points. A break of 23 once more giivo Randrup the lead, who held an advantage of ten points just after the 400 mark was passed. A break of 2G by Hackett brought forth one of 35 by his opponent. Hackett at his next visit made a break of 30 and won a great game by running to points with an unfinished break of 29. The final score was W. IS. Hackett, 500 ; breaks of 47. 42, 26, 32, 2S, 41, 43, 26, 30 and 29 unfinished. H. Kandrup, 452, breaks of 38, 31, .37, 21, 29, 23 and 35. The second semi-final will be played this evening between M; D. White and H. H. Massey. The winner will play W. E. Hackett-in-the final,
