"COLOSSAL IMPUDENCE"
MOTOR CYCLIST FINED.
DROVE WITHOUT LICENSE. S.M. THREATENS IMPRISONMENT. "You have shown by your record that you are capable of colossal impudence mid check in Court, and I am going to leal with you. If you come before me again you shall go to gaol. You have shown, complete contempt of an order passed by .' the Court at Auckland, igainst which you did not appeal."
With these remarks Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M.,at the. Police Court in Otahuhu today intimated that Farington Edward Lockhart Power would be fined £20 for driving without a• license. Power, who was conducting his own case, pointed out to the magistrate that he had examined the Act, and had found that the maximum fine possible under it waii £10. Mr. Levien referred to the Act, and subsequently reduced the fine on the charge to, £10. On a charge of dangerous driving Power was fined £2 and costs, for having inadequate number plates the fine was £1 and costs, for having no head light 10/ and costs, for having no tail lights Court costs.. The charge of failure to stop, was dismissed. • « • Reviewing Power's record, the -magistrate said- that in 1927, on November f>, his license had been, cancelled for 12 months, and he was then fined £5.. On. March 29.1925, lie was convicted of driving without a license. He was. fined £5. for dangerous driving on May 29, 1929, and his license, was again cancelled for five years. Then on Ju.ie 4 of this year,. he was convicted and lined - £5 for driving, without «a license. .'Mr. Levien said he Jiad an idea the accused had previously been threatened with gaol., .... • • . • - - Power, asked for time in which to pay, but this was.refused. .
