NEW ARTS BUILDING.
OLD AUCKLAND GRAMMAR
SCHOOL.
PROMISING ANNOUNCEMENT.
Speaking veserday at the opening of the exhibition of prints and etchings by New Zealand artists in the Art Gallery. Dr. E. B. Gunson, president of the Auckland Society of Arts, made interesting reference to the proposal for the utilisation of the gite of the old Grammar School as a site for the establishment of a new Art building. He said the members of the University and Library Committee of the City Council, who met the Minister of Education for the purpose of discussing the subject a few days ago, had a most encouraging reception, and the Minister (Hon. H. Atmore) had stated that a strong case had been made out in favour of the scheme. "There is every hope that something definite will result," said Dr. Gunson. Miss E. Melville, chairman of the Library Committee of the City Council, said the fact that Auckland people appreciated Art had been clearly shown by the previous four exhibitions which had been seen by nearly 15,000 people.
