AUCKLAND CLUB MEET. At the Domain on Saturday tie Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle dab held another of its weekly winter competitions for the cross country season. Large fields lined up in each of the events, which were keenly contested. Th* sprint vas raa off in four heats, the first and secdnd appearing in the final. Henry 1 F. Adams «..,..... 2 G. T. Mitchell 3 Distance, 118 ft lin. CALLIOPE HARRIERS. The official opening run of the Calliope Harrier Club was hei-d on Saturday afternoon. The Birkenbead Borough Council was represented by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. McPhail), Mr. A. G. Jasp«r, and the towa clerk (Mr. J. VT. Cocka), who were welcomed by the president, Mr. W. E. Patterson.
The Mayor congratulated the district on the formation of the new club to encourage cross-country running at Birkenhead and Vjrthcote, and impressed the nope that the new organisation would flourish. The Mayoress, Mrs. McPhail, was presented with, a bouquet of pink sweet peas, and also a starting whiatie, adorned with the black an<i white colours of the dab, »nd the blue and gold colours of the district school. Sbe was duly installed aa official starter. / The start was. from the Birk«nh«ad Methodise School. The schoolboys, numbering tbout -0, were handicapped and sent away over a course of one mile and a half. The result was:—George Masters 1, Bob Brennan 2, G. Sowerby. close up, 3. The winner received a blue sash inscribed "C.H., 1930." from the Mayoress, aad th* first tive boya home were given a bine ribbon with the club's monogram and the date worked thereon. The senior pack of tea runner* corered a course of faur miles, laid by Mr. Frank Taylor, with a run in over 400 yard*. The result was:— J. Silvester 1, S. Aedrews 2, J. Wecgdall 3. The Mayoress presented the winner with a star, dated 1030, to be worn on the ainglet, to signify he was first home in the I official run for the season. Mrs. Patterson, wife of the president, subsequently entertained the party at afternoon tea.
