CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION
SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT.
. In the Arbitration; Court yesterday afternoon a settlement was arrived at ill the case in which Archibald Wallace Young (Mr. <J. J. Sullivan) sought pmisation from Nearing and Co., Ltd. (Mi\ Bagnall) for injuries suffered by him in ah accidentr Which befell him while assisting to unload the Port Alma at Prince's wharf On August 2, 192.9, He Was removing a section of the ship's railing when it came away suddenly. He lost his balance, and in falling into the hai'bom , , struck the lower stringer of the wharf, with the result that he suffered a fracture of the skull. This injury, Young declared, had caused nianent total loss of hearing in his left ear and injury to his right ear and his brain. ' The Court entered judgment for plaintiff in the terms agreed upon, granting him, four months' full compensation from January 17—up to which date the defendant company had paid him compensation at the rate of £3 8/5 weekly ---and 15 per cent of full compensation for permanent partial disablement for the remainder of the statutory period. Costs and witnesses' expenses "aggregating £17 6/ were allowed. .
