SHIP IN DISTRESS.
IRON CROWN STRIKES ROOK
LATER REPORTED "SAFE.
Distress calls from the steamer Iron Crown were picked up this morning by the General Post Office, Auckland. The first message, broadcast from Adelaide at 2.35 a.m.,-stated that the vessel had struck Webb Rock, near Adelaide, and was asking for assistance. She gave her position as 34 degrees 39 minutes south, 136 degrees 55J minutes east. At 3.21 a.m. a further radio was received that the Iron Crown ha* weathered Webb,Rock and was not then in need of assistance. Forty minutes later Adelaide advised all stations that the Iron Crown reported having made about a mile and a half westward of the rock, and concluded, "All clear now."^ The Iron Crown is a steamer of 3353 tons gross, owned by Interstate Steamships, 0 Ltd. She was built at Williamstown in 1922 as the Euroa.
