IMPORTS OF STUD CATTLE.
N.Z. BREEDERS EXPLOITED ? FARMERS' UNION RESOLUTION. (By Telegraph.—'Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. •The question of importation of stud cattle into New Zealand was discussed at tlie meeting of the Dominion executive of the Farmers' Union to-day. A Wanganui remit was passed, urging •that ..'the attention of the Government should he directed to the absurd situation of America importing cattle from the Channel Islands and passing them on to New Zealand for sale ,without let or hindrance and exploiting-New Zealand; breeders: The remit further, urged that the importation of such cattle', sheep and pigs from the United States of America' or Australia should be prohibited. In .moving the remit,. Mr; "J. Tocker (Taranaki) said that they had taken the stand that stock should not- be allowed' to be imported from any country which had foot and mouth disease until it could show a clean bill of 'health for two years. He hoped they Would stand firm on this attitude. They • should take every precaution to keep-the Dominion's ■flocks and' herds clean. New Zealand could produce better stud cattle than could Jersey itself.
