BORROWED A RECEIPT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, this day. A Chinese, Ying Sam, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-dav to a charge of remaining in New Zealand beyond the period for which a temporary permit had been granted. When approached by the police the accused produced a receipt for the full tax, but when interviewed lat6r and confronted with a photograph he confessed that the receipt was not his.

The magistrate inflicted a fine of £lo and ordered deportation.
