WEEK ENDS STRONG. ■ N.S.W. BANK IN DEMAND. DROP IN COLONIAL SUGAR. The local Stock -Exchange registered a substantial volume of business yesterday afternoon, and this was followed by the busiest Saturday morning call that has been experienced for a considerable period. Usually the last call of the week finds brokers only mildly interested, but this morning quite a number of transactions were finalised in the room. Bank of New South Wales were in especial demand, and four parcels changed hands at an advance. The general tone ot the market was decidedly healthy. An exception was'in the case ot Colonial Sugar, in which a holder dropped his price £3 5/ on the last local «ale recorded the first week in September, in order to effect a transfer. • ~,,,, Farmers' Auctioneering Co., which holds its annual meeting to-day, was quoted ex div., with values adjusted accordingly. Local bodies debentures were offered more freely, the offerings including Auckland Harbour Board 4 per cents at £92 10/. Thames Harbour Board 6 per cent (1945) at £105, and Auckland Hospital Board QWs at £103. New Zealand Breweries scrip has finned up again, with buyers of the shares at £4 8/, and of the debentures at £1 8/10. A new stock listed for the first time was that of the Dominion Investment and Banking Co. These are £1 shares, and pay 7 per cent dividend. They were offered at £1 2/6. Interest Rates.
