POTATO ADVANCE CHECKED.

CHEISTCHURGH, Friday. The potato market has lost eome of the brightness it possessed earlier iu the week. On Wednesday sales of October deliveries were made at £.11 .5/, but to-day buyers are not accepting offers of £11. However, it is the prompt market that has met with the principal cheek, prices dropping ba-ck to £9 a ton, f.0.b., e.i. They were ruling at £10 on Wednesday. The Waj-p-iata is expected to eailfrom-Lyttelton on Monday or Tuesday, and she will be followed by the Waipahi, probably on Wednesday. Ifcie expected that the two boats wall take about 6000 sacks from both ports for Atickland. The wlaeat market is unaltered. Seeds are in small demand and there is very little in farmers' band's. Perennial ryegrass is worth' up to 7/ a bushel, f.0.b., e.i.. Italia.n to 6,'; Cocksfoot, 13d to ISVsd a lb for machine drejeed, and cdwgra&s 80/ per cwt. The quality of cowgrass ■ this season is very indifferent and merchants are not prepared to quote more that 4%d a Ibto farmers. European seed is being offered at a'very low rate.
