BURGLARS BUSY.
TWO BREAKS, TWO ATTEMPTS MAN DETAINED, BUT BELEASED NOTHING STOLEN. Found loitering round the warehouse area in the Strand, Parnell, early this morning, a man was detained by the Paruell police, but was later released. Burglars were active in the neighbourhood last evening, and two attempts and two burglaries have been reported. Nothing was stolen. It appears that the intruder or intruders worked along the Strand from Gittos Street, making their tirst attempt on Seabrook Fowlds , motor assembling stores, where a jemmy was used, but the door withstood the strain. Gilmore's oil store was the next attraction, and here the lock of the oiiice door was forced. The place was ransacked, but without result. Further round the Strand an attempt was made on the Farmers' Co-operative Stores, but again the lock held fast. Jemmy marks on the trap door were all that was left as a memento of the visit. . Across the street to the Dominion Motors' assembling plant the intruder travelled. Here he got inside through forcing the trap door lock, and although a good search was made, nothing was taken. It was in the "cold., grey hour before the dawn" that a vigilant policeman came across a man loitering round the street near Dominion Motors, and attracted by the man's suspicious movements, the policeman detained him. It was found that the assembly plant had been broken into, and inside a jemmy was found. Nothing was found on the man which would implicate him, and he was later allowed to go.
