EGG EXPORT.
SHIPMENT BY ROTORUA.
IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY. ENGLISH LIKE BROWN EGG. Good progress is being made with the grading at the Government grading store in connection with Auckland's first 1929 quota of 750 cratcs for the English market. The eggs are coming in well, and show a marked improvement in quality and grade as compared with last year. This is, no doubt, due to the appeal made to producers by the export committee. The shipment will be taken by the Rotorua, leaving here on October 7.
Unlike the South Island, where the export eggs are not graded for colour, the local consignment comprises three distinct grades—browns, creams and whites, the first two assortments being in greater demand in England, where the public prefer a brown egg particularly.
No word has yet been received of the next steamer sailing, but information is expected from the Shipping Allotment Committee.
A new feature of egg export is the 14J1I) pack which enables the Dominion to dispose of an egg which, though of equal quality to a larger egg, has hitherto been excluded under the Government guarantee., which provides lo; a 20 per cent total, of these eggs in the shipment.
