LIST TO PORT.
STEAMER FROM NEW YORK. DECK SWEPT BY SEAS. CARGO IX HOLD SHIFTS. Lying at Prince's wharf this morning, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Victor looked as if she might roll over at any moment, as she had a decided list to port. As she had come all the way from New York, however, in that condition she was in no danger tied up at the wharf. The Port Victor loaded general cargo at New York and left there on August 17. When she sailed she already had a slight list to port, and this became more and more noticeable as the cargo settled. By the time she had entered the Pacific she way lying over like a keel yacht, and when ten clays ago she encountered a stiff westerly breeze the seas swept over her decks. White salt caked on her docks and winches when she arrived at Auckland this morning showed thai she had been a very wet ship. When the hatches were taken oil" it was found that all the movable cargo had slid down to leeward. In one hold the pressure of the sliding cases in the 'tween decks had burst some drums of bitumen, which lay in pools amongst the cargo.
