BROOKS SENTENCED. "BEFORE COURT MANY TIMES" FOURTEEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT. For imposing upon the Auckland Hospital Board by obtaining stores and broad by false pretences, John James William Brooks was sentenced to 14 clays' imprisonment, at the Police Court this morning. Brooks was convicted on the charge yesterday and remanded until to-day, when a report was received from the probation officer. Mr. Cocker, who prosecuted on behalf of the Hospital Board, said the board did not press for a heavy penalty. However the board desired to make it quite clear that it would take strong action against any person who obtained relief by false prcteiif.es. "I have perused the report about this man," said Mr. P. K. Hunt. "He has been before the Court many times, and has twice been in prison. In view of what Mr. Cocker has said, I will halve the penalty. I was going to give him a month."
