AMUSEMENTS.

ROXY THEATRE. Talking films are the popular vogue to-day, and the Roxy Theatre will present next Friday a double feature programme of talking, singing and dancing pictures. The main attraction will be "The Leather Neck," said to he one of the best dialogue films to be screened up to the present. The star is William Boyd, who became famous by his acting in "The Volga Boatman." His voice is said to be pure English. The picture concerns three army deserters, Boyd taking the part of one of them. He is arraigned before a military court, and this scene is said to be thrilling in the extreme. The officers speak clearly and distinctly, the whole proceedings of the court martial being presented to the audience. The second feature is a comedy success. This is part dialogue with a synchronised score. It is the well-known "Geraldine." Marion Nixon is the featured player, and the musical score is said to be out of the ordinary. "FLORODORA." The Auckland Amateur Operatic Society are having a highly successful season with the colourful presentation of the bright operetta, "Florodora." A pleasing feature is the ballet work, especially in the glade scene, when Pan plays his pipes amongst a bevy of Auckland's charming dancers. The comedian, Mr. Lyttelton, continues to make the house rock with his spontaneity of wit. The leading lady, Miss Verner Wishart, enthralls the audience with ■her lovely voice, and Mr. Snell, as the hero, despite his slight cold, sings his numbers in fine style. Although the season does not close until • Saturday night, the booking is heavy, and those who wish to see this successful production should not leave the booking until the last moment. • DANCE RECITAL. A dance recital by pupils pf Miss Yolande Orbell will be held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday night. There will be a firstclass programme of dances with dramatic interludes.
