THROUGH BUSES.

BLOCKHOUSE BAY REQUEST. SERVICE TO CITY URGED. . j; MR. ALLUM URGES CAUTION. : j A feeling of dissatisfaction which prevails in regard to the Blockhouse Bay transport services was ventilated last night, when an enthusiastic audience of over 100 residents attended a meeting in the local picture hall. The meeting, over which Councillor G. Grey Campbell presided, was convened by Messrs. A. J. Thorn, P. Powler, J. Gordon and 0. Guttormson. Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, was on the platform and associated with him were Messrs. M. J. Coyle and E. Morton. Mr. A. J. Thom said the people of Blockhouse Bay wanted an adequate bus service direct to the city, suitable to the requirements of the whole district. The Transport Board had not kept the promises it marie when a deputation' (of which he was a speaker) had waited on the board. Thousands of tourists used to visit the bay, but lately the amount of traffic had fallen off, chiefly, he thought, owing to the buses going by way of Point Chevalier, which district was, in consequence, booming. Mr. Allum, addressing the meeting, explained the difficulties whicli lay in front of him and quoted figures which supported his statement that the amount of traffic did not warrant a continuous through service. He would not and could not promise much relief, as the burden would have to be placed on the shoulders of other districts. Ho suggested that a committee of interested persons should be formed to study the c lion and wait on the board with concrete proposals, and then repon k to a further general meeting of residents. This course was adopted, and Messrs. W. Kealey, H. P. Burton, W. Pendlebury, E. Gill, P. Fowler, D. Wilson, J. W. Kealy and W. Pooley were elected to watch the transport interests of Blockhouse Bay.
