A meeting of farmers and representatives of commercial interests, convened by the South Taranaki'provincial executive of the Fanners' Union, passed a resolution this afternoon protesting » against the proposed amendments of land and income taxation as throwing an inequitable burden on the farming • community, it being considered that other avenues should .be explored to balance the Budget deficit. The meeting suggested that before a!ny increase in taxation was approved steps should be made to curtail the cost of Government administration, and that a protest be made against lowering the mortgage exemption.
