RUINOUS TO FARMERS."
MR. POLSOX'S POLICY QUESTIONED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) - < ASHBURTOX, Tuesday. The following resolution regarding the . proposed taxation on land was passed at a largelv-atteuded meeting of farmers'" to-day: "That this meeting emphatically protests against the proposal to increase land tax, and pledges itself to do all in its power to prevent the proposal being adopted, as it would be ruinous to many farmers and not in the interests of the country as a- whole. That, if' the statement attributed to Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P., on the Budget debate is correct, that he is speaking on behalf ,of members of the Farmers' Union in advocating increased taxation, this meeting of Mid-Canterbury .farmers entirely .dissociate itself from such views and considers Mr. Poison has no authority for the statement."
