The Auckland Rowing Club held trial f °<" S for the Pewter Mug, a trophy with a very interesting history. Four crews competed The first heat crews we™ «; Kfss. J. McComtsh, G. Cleal, A. Doull; W. Eaddy, E. Thorburn, L. RosV A. Jackson. Riss , crew took the lead from the start and steadily increasing their advantage won easily by several lengths, o ». e ~s econd heat crews were:—R. Stacey R. WEST END CLUB. The West End Rowing Club's trial fours were for the Kohn Shield. Three crews competed. The crews were :—V. McFarlaue i Conwa y. i"- Conway; J. Hay" lock, VV. Bloxham, R. Woodside, M Tay- , Strange, v - Pogan, R. Macey, L. McDonald. Victory went to McFarluuc's crew.
ST. GEORGE'S CLUB. The St. George's Club held trial fours. Four crews competed, and in the first heat were: V. Hargreaves, J. Coote, W. Handle, V. Dunne; W. Woolhouse, S. Hislop. A. McGlasham, V. Morton. The crews went off to a good start and raced on even terms until just past halfway. Hargreaves then quickened his stroke which suited the rough water conditions and forging ahead won by two lengths. _ The second heat crews were: M. Simons. T. Colbeck, D. McGregor, E. Auger • C D'Authreau, F. Soloman, W. Carr T Olsen" This resulted in a great finish, Simons win' ning by one length. In the final Simons beat Hargreaves by half a canvas.
WAITEMATA CLUB. The Waitemata Boating Club held a set or subscription trial fours. Five crews competed. The first heat crews were: C. Road. E Bishop, T. Wilson, W. Jones; L. Brooker C. Bel ton, I'. Piatt, H. Sherson ; W. Lowe T. Keegan, F. Simmonds, K. Gladding. The crews got off together and Read was first to show to advantage, with Brooker second. The positions were maintained throughout. Read improving his lead to win by just over two lengths. The second heat crews were:—G. Barker T. Impey, D. Shore, H. Lawrence; r! Crulckshank, J. Beesley, J. Hunn c. Mo Gehnn. " There was little between the crews for the greater part of the journey. Barker then took the lead off the yacht boathouse Cruickshank came with a spurt two feet an eXciting finish Barker won by In the final Read's boat suffered an accident and Barker won easily.
