ROWING.

NORTH SHORE CLUB. The North Shore Rowing Club was the scene of a very bright function on Saturday, when the official opening of the season took place, the club entertaining their friends and supporters to an "At Home." There was record attendance of spectators, who enjoyed a most pleasant afternoon. Mr. A." Harris, M. P. and club patron, in welcoming the visitors, gave an interesting resume of the club's activities. The boathouse was daintily decorated, and the many trophies and photographs containing the club's records were much admired. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies' committee under the supervision of Mesdames Seagar, Sharp, Farquharson, and Bulland. The Auckland Rowing Association was represented by Messrs. A Buckler, V. Dunn, and R. Mackay, and the Whangarei Regatta Committee bv Mr. C. Maloney. '

During the afternoon trial fours were rowed by all the clubs of the harbour «i order to qualify for the iuter-club event the Barrett Cup. The course was irom the Sheerlegs wharf to a point off the boathouse. Starting was by mutual consent. Twenty crews competed, and thirteen races were rowed before the finalists for the Barrett Cup were discovered. The water conditions were ideal for a start, but with the fresh southerly wind a rough sea was raised. The racing resulted:— off ß t a hp e^ n S UP "^ Th £ crews rowed on the final: —North Shore : D.
