FIRST WIN.

M.C.C. CRICKETERS.

Defeat Of Australian Team.

MARGIN OF EIGHT WICKETS.

SYDNEY, November 20. The cricket match, England v. an Australian eleven ended this afternoon in a victory for the visitors by eight wickets, their first win of the tour.

The weather was fine and the wicket in excellent condition. There were 6400 spectators and the receipts totalled £468. When stumps were drawn on Monday the local side had made 231 runs in their first innings and 128 for three wickets in their second, against the Englishmen's first innings total of 357. Jackson (22) and Bradman (0), the not out men, continued the Australians' second venture, which did not produce much impressive play. Jackson had increased his score to 61 when he tried to turn a ball from Tate to leg and was caught by the wicketkeeper. His display nad been sparkling at times, but it lacked soundness. At the luncheon adjournment seven wickets were down for 216. Nothling, who was the only other batsman to reach double figures, played solid cricket. Tate again kept a good length and swung his deliveries awkwardly. Geary was accurate. Requiring only 117 runs to win England commenced their second innings with Hobbs and Sutcliffe. They were still together at the afternoon tea adjournment when they had made 54 between them.

When play was resumed Scaife fielded instead of Nothling, whose shoulder was injured. Hooker completely beat Sutcliffe, who had played a sound innings. Jardine went early. Hobbs and Mead then carried the Englishmen to victory. The former is still a master batsman. He made safe strokes and displayed versatility against all kinds of bowling. He hit only four foure, though he was batting 106 minutes. Hooker, who is a right-handed medium-paced bowler, and Bettington, a slow break bowler, won admiration. It would not be surprising if both later were playing in Test matches. I The Englishmen fielded well, having the win in view, but the outstanding feature to-day was Duckworth's wicket - keeping, which was magnificent. His catching of Jackson on the leg eide, together with his work there, was superb. Following are the details of the scores:— AUSTRALIANS.—First Innings.
