BY-LAW CASES.

MANY MOTORISTS PROSECUTED.

A large number of motorists were prosecuted by the police at the Police Court this morning for breaches of the city's by-laws. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., presided over the lower court, while SubInspector McCarthy prosecuted.

For failing to give way to a vehicle I on his right, Samuel Bradley was fined £2 and costs 19/. On a similar charge, and by request, James Cdle was fined £5 1/, so that he might appeal. Security for appeal was fixed at £10 10/. Charged with negligent driving George E. Fell was fined £2, plus costs, while for failing to have a driver's license, he was mulcted a further 10/ and costs. On similar charges Alfred J. Partridge was fined £2 and £1, with costs. Three motorists were charged with failing to report accidents, Henry Ernest Reed and Lillie Taylor each being fined £1 and costs, and George William Averill 10/. Passing between two vehicles cost Albert Hiko £2 and 13/ costs, while Thomas A. Bullock, who crossed a railway line when it was not clear, was fined £3 and costs.

There were many other charges, such as failure to have driver's license, driving without re?r lights, and leaving cars unattended for more than the period allowed. In nearly all these cases fines of 10/ and costs were imposed.

Cases brought by local body inspectors were taken before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., who imposed the following penalties: — Auckland City: Failure to obey traffic inspector, Selwyn John Dillicar 10/, and Herbert Walker, £1; leaving car unaLtended, Robert E. Augustus Phillips, Walter Leslie D. Harvie, Alan Bruce Nicholson and William Frederick Lauder, 10/; failing to park vehicle, Charles Dick McLean, 10/; driving in a dangerous manner, S. Stevens, £1; turning to the right in a prohibited area, John C. Litten, 10/; passing stationary tram car, Stanley Ronald Underwood, 10/; driving without front or rear lights, Herbert Victor Baker, £1; no front number plate, John K. Austin, costs 10/.

Mount Albert: Using footpath for vehicle without having constructed a crossing, Brian Allely, F. E. Allen, A. W. Patterson, A. E. Shedlock 10/, and G. W. Taylor costs; riding bicycle on footpath, William Gill, Wm. J. Geard, Frederick Herbert, F. G. Scott, Cyril Spicer, Douglas Thomson, convicted and ordered to pay costs; for speeding Basil Thomas was ordered to pay costs. Newmarket: Dangerous driving, Ngan Fong, £2; Dr. A. B. Jatnieson and C. A. Spitz, £1; speeding, W. J. Earvvaker and G. H. Hunt, £1; failing to keep to left of traffic dome, I. J. Goldstine, A. H. Ripley, A. E. Turner, 10/; and H. Whisker £1. New Lynn: Having no traffic license, A. W. Bryant, £1; failing to obey traffic officer, J. Jackson, costs; pillion riding, D. J. King, costs; riding bicycle without lights, H. F. Hill, 10/; dangerous driving and no driver's license, W. M. Paul and Alfred Jones, £2 and costs. Auckland Harbour Board: Dangerous driving on wharf, W. A. Leonard, £1 and costs.
