IMPORTATION NOT INTENDED.

WESTPORT, this dav.

In reference to Press reports regarding the importation of smokeless C fuel for the New Zealand railways, Mr Gerald Hamilton, attorney of *Sen*ile Heat Distillation, Ltd, of' London, who is at present in Westport, wishes to make it perfectly clear that his com, pany has no intention of importing L and N fuel into New Zealand. The solobject of his visit is to discover to what extent the L and N process can be developed in the Dominion by the treatment of New Zealand lignites and bituminous coals.

The negotiations to which references have appeared in the Press were in reference to their policy, and related to the supplying of part of the New Zealand railways' needs with smokeless L and N fuel made from New Zealand coal.
