Glasgow presided. all TV question of roads—an all-important one m the district—Sir ames said it was essential that the primary producer should have adequate acilities to enable him to get his stuff o the market. In districts where roads were bad or indifferent the farmer was oiten a heavy loser, since his produce depreciated in value before it reached the purchaser. "If returned," said Sir James, 'I shall make it my business to see that the matter of good roads for this electorate shall never be lost of. (Applause.) Discounting a suggestion that there should be little or no protection for the city industries, Sir James said town and country were dependent upon each other, and must pull together if the Dominion was to progress. The Arapuni hydro-electric scheme, which was such a boon to the farming community, had been made possible by the Auckland City Council, which guaranteed the Power Board £100,000 per annum. Mr. T. G. Smith proposed a vote of thanks, confidence in the candidate, and the Reform Government. This wa? seconded by Mr. W. Leslie, and carried with much enthusiasm.
