TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.
ENJOYABLE REUNION.
A very successful reunion was held by members of the Auckland Typographical Union in the Grosvenor Cafe on Saturday night, the function taking the form of a dinner and social. Besides a large gathering of members from both city and outlying districts, there were present as guests representatives of the newspaper proprietaries, and various speeches emphasised the harmonious relationships existent in the trade.
The president of the union, Mr. W. J. Simmonds, occupied the chair.
The toast of the guests was proposed by the vice-president, Mr. S. Learning, and was responded to by Mr. F. W. Petterd. "Past and Present Officers" was proposed by Mr. A. D. Bruce, Mr. J. Graham responding. "Country Members" was proposed by the secretary, Mr. F. A. Cleveland, the response being made by Mr. G. Rundle, of Hamilton. The toast of the "Newspaper Proprietors' Association," proposed by Mr. D. Macfarlane, was responded to by Mr. G. C. Codlin.
During the evening a typographical orchestra, consisting'of Messrs. R. Potter, W. Hicks, and A. Sorrenson, contributed several selections in a highly creditable manner, and songs were pleasingly rendered by Dr. B. M. Gunn and Messrs. Duncan Black and H. Pollock. The happy function concluded with "Auld Lang Syne."
