RIFLE SHOOTING.

AKARANA CLUB.

Members of the Akarana Rifle Club fired their second series over the ranges of 800 and 900 yards at Penrose Rifle Range for trophies presented by Messrs: Coombes, Beston and Draffln. Conditions were ideal for shooting and some good scores were registered. The top three men In each section take 3, 2, and 1 points respectively. Silver spoons were won by S. Elliott, A. E. Elliott and A. G. Smith. ■ Details of Saturday's shoot are as follow:— Mr. F. W. Coombes' Trophy.—S. Elliott, 45 at 800 yds and 40 at 900yds—total 94; C. Ashley, 45, 47—92; D. Calder, 45, 46— 91; W. CITY AND SUBURBS CLUB.

The first shoot of the season was fired by the City and Suburbs Ri* Club at 800 yds and 900 yds on Saturday. Aided by splendid shooting conditions the marksmen made some fine scores, the most outstanding performance being- that of H. J. Verrall, •who dropped only fonr points In 20 shots. Other fine scores were made by A. J. Pieterson 93, H. W. Cozens 92, and S. Griffiths 91. Pieterson and S. Elliott, Akarana, scored an aggregate of 187 in the pairs match for Major Cox's trophies, and H. J. Verrall and S. Griffiths won a spoon each. Detailed results are:— A Grade.—H. J. Verrall, 50 at 800 yds, 46 at 900 yds, total, 96; A. J. Pieterson, 48, 45 —93; J. A. Spry, 45, 42—67; G. H. Hughes, 41, 45—86; P. J. Pring, 43, 40— 88; W. H. Thompson, 47, 33—80; A. T. Patrick, 34, 43—77; C. J. M. Clark, retired. B Grade.—®. Griffiths (rec. 3), 46, 45— 94; H. W. Cozens (scr), 46, 46—92; R. S. Alexander (rec. 4), 44, 43—91; G. P. Birks (rec. 6), 42, 42 —90; C. Thompson (rec. 12), 46, 28—86; T. Cutler (rec. 10), 42, 34 —86; H. W. Verrall (scr), 41, 40 —81; L. F. Verrall (rec. 10), 22, 35—67. Trophy points in the A grade are: Pieterson, 5; Verrall, 4; and Spry, 3. B grade: Cozens, 5; Russell, Mayhill, Griffiths and Alexander, 3 each; and Cutler, 1. The first series of the service championship will be fired next Saturday with practice targets available at 500 yds and 600 yds.
