Mrs. A. D. Hawksby, of Cambridge, has left to reside at Aria, The Misses Bouillion, of Auckland, are spending the holidays in Hamilton. Mrs. F. Bullock has returned to Hamilton, from a visit to Auckland. Mis? E. Madeley is away on a visit to Wanganui. Mrs. J. Thorpe, of Nelson, has been staying in Hamilton. Mrs. A. Joll, of Hamilton, is on a visit to Auckland. Mrs. C. C. Carthew has returned home to New Plymouth, from a visit to Mrs. G. S. Crimp, of Hamilton. Mrs. F. Foxton, of Tauranga, is staying in Hamilton. Miss Osborne, of Wairarapa, is the guest of Mrs. McCracken, of Hamilton. Mr. and Miss Hepburn have left Hamilton on a visit to Christchurch. Miss Nixon, of Pukemiro, is away for the school vacation, in Auckland. Mrs. C. H. Grierson, of Auckland, has been staying in Hamilton. Miss J. Begg, of Auckland, has been on a visit to Hamilton. Dr. Buckley Turkington, of Auckland, has returned from a visit to Paeroa.
Miss Betty Manning, of River Road, Claudelande, entertained some of her friends at a progressive bridge party on Monday. The rooms were arranged with beautiful blue and red anemones. Mrs. Manning wore black georgette, Miss B. Manning, jade frock. Those present were: Meedames Lance Tompkins, Colin Taylor, E. C. Brewis, Misses I. Guy, E. Ward, A. Hare (Feilding), C. Chitty, T. Monckton, W. Plummer (Auckland), H. Wilson, N. Monckton, J. Banks, F. Peacocke, R. Vickery, D. Plummer (Auckland), A. Wilson, B. Vickery, Denning (Auckland), and K. Oliver.
The Masonic Ball, held in the Ngaruawahia Hall on Thursday, was a successful function. The hall and supper-room were decorated with streamers, and the stage was arranged like a drawing-room. The ladies present were: Mesdames J. T. Graham, Bull, T. A. Clayton, Webb, McGrner, Mead, Sutherland, E. J. Rogers, Foster, Carlton, Lynch, Feeney, G. Peach, T. Mitchell, Brockett, Blowden, J. L. Johnstone, Woollams, Moon, Griffiths, Brewer, Leggatt, Paterson, Tuck, H. Morris, Powell, Beagley, Fordyce, J. Cavanagh, Brunskill, Murray, H. D. A very enjoyable farewell was given by Mrs. Frank Quinn, at Te Awamutu, on Monday evening. The guest of honour was Miss Woollev, who is leaving shortly for Australia. The rooms were bright with daffodils, and the guests spent a jolly time playing battle bridge. Miss JL. Quinn assisted her mother in looking after the guests. Those present were: Misses Woolley, H. A bright little dance was held in St. Peter's Hall on Thursday under the auspices of the Young People's Club. The hostess was Mrs. E. H. Curling, who wore black georgette. Those present were: Misses Zellman, Price, M. Mercer, D. Clark, E. Darrow, R. Johnstone, Onions, B. Johnstone, R. Wilson, Troutbeck, E. Gray, M. Guymore, M. Shaw, Whitehouse, Hewitson, O. A farewell afternoon tea was given at Cambridge last week by Mrs. S. Lewis for Mrs. Hyman Lewis, who is leaving Cambridge to reside in Tauranga. Those present were: Mesdames E. R. Lee, O. Gane, J. On Monday night at the Lyceum Club the local branch of the Howard League held a meeting to discuss the provisions of the Mental Defectives Bill. The principal speaker was Miss Jean Begg, of Auckland, who gave a most interesting aHdress, and explained very fully a number of points to the audience. Other speakers were: The Mayor, Mr. Fow, Mr. F. A. de la Mare, Mr. S. Lye. The ladies present were: Mesdames E. English, S. Lye, A. Whitehorn, Morton, J. McKenzie, W. J. Stevens, Parrish, D. At Cambridge on Thursday Mrs. Hart entertained some of her friends at afternoon tea. The drawing room was decorated with violets and pink camelias. Those present were: Mesdames R. Fisher, A. D.
