TO-DAY'S RACING.

Wellington Finale.

THIRD DAY AT TRENTHAM.

Talavera Hurdles To Olympic.— Gold Cure's Crofton Hack. Big Jump To Beau Cavalier. Fairy Herald Bags Winter Oats.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

TRENTHAM, this day.

The Wellington Racing Club's steeplechase meeting is concluding in fine weather, before a large attendance. The track is heavy.

▲ Rank Outsider.

All went to the post for the Talavera Hurdles. Quincoma was made a very warm favourite, being entrusted with

£1694, while Sir Moment ( £590) and Erin-go-Biagh ( £534) were next fancied. Erin-go-Bragh was quickly in front and led along the straight from Waltzer. Good Sport, Hvmgreat, Star Shell, Quineoina and Red Bank. The order of the leaders was the same along the back, except that Lady Gay was moving up. Across the top Erin-go- Bragli was attended by Red Bank, Olympic, Waltzer, Good Sport, Hymgreat, Lady Gay, and Quincoma, the lastnamed having made a faulty jump at the hurdle near the seven furlongs post. Erin-go-Bragh was first to turn for home from Olympic, the pair being well clear of Red Bank, Lady Passenger and Lady Gay. Olympic led over the last hurdle and won by three lengths from Lady Gay, who stayed on better than Erin-go-Bragh and beat him by a length. Ruby Ring was a head away, fourth, with Red Bank, Lady Pas-1 senger, .Star Shell, Waltzer and Quincoma next. Olympic paid a royal price. A Favourite Beaten. Mark Mint was the only withdrawal from the Novice Handicap. The public went for Consent (£2557), Dancing Star (£1150), and Tripos (£746). They were again disappointed, for the winner turned up in Historic, one of Mr. V. Riddiford's team. Dancing Star, Consent, Historic and Tea Rose were most prominent in the early stages, but at the false rail Consent was in charge, with Historic and Dancing Star next. Historic had Consent beaten half a furlong from home, and won by half a neck, with Veronese three lengths away. Dancing Star, Tripos, Tea Rose and Battle Torque were next. Gold Core Again. Full Mark, owing to the death of his owner, Mr. G. Foreman (who will be remembered as the owner of that good horse Full Rate) was the only defection from the Crofton Handicap, leaving a field of thirteen. Pangolin ( £1941) was the first fancy, with The Mug ( £929), Majoram ( £928) and Gold Cure ( £SS3) the next best backed. From a straggling start Gold Cure and Volplane were the first to show out, with Grand National, Tcri, Carinthia and The Mug liexL Pangolin and Volplane led across the top, attended by Grand National, Carinthia, Gold Cure, Rotowhero and Majoram. ! Pangolin was the first to straighten up [ for the judge, with Carinthia, Gold Cure and Teri next. Gold Cure then ran to the front and won by three-quarters of a length from Teri, who beat Grand National by half a length. Maui, Pangolin, King Mart, Majoram, Clavers and The Mug were next. I Beau Cavalier Wins Well. Three withdrawals from the Winter Hurdles left a field of a dozen, of which Nukumai, Beau Cavalier, and Red Fuchsia were the public fancies. The favourite ran badly, and never got into a winning position. Beau Cavalier, on the other hand, always impressed, and at no time after the first fence was negotiated was the lead wrested from him. 1-or a mile all jumped perfectly. The field with a round to go was well strung out. At this stage Beau Cavalier was a couple of lengths in front of Kauri Park, and three lengths further back followed. Aberfeldy, Nucleus. Red Fuchsia, Mia Bella, Gaze, Nukumai. and Kilburn, with Braeman and Vexatious bust. Red Fuchsia moved up third along the back, and as they ran towards the straight still further improved his position, running past Kauri Park, who was tiring and rapidly dropping beak. Jumping in his usual bold fashion Beau Cavalier got two lengths the best of Red Fuchsia turning for home, and with daylight separating each Mia Bella, Gaze, Kauri Park, and Xukumai followed in that order. Beau Cavalier was first over the last fence, then went right away to win very easily by half a dozen lengths from Red Fuchsia, with Gaze battling on, a good third. Aberfeldy and ■Kilburn fell. As Beau Cavalier went past the post the cheering began, horse and rider beinsr accorded a great ovation. History Repeated. The whole of the 10 acceptors were ?addled up lor the Winter Oats, the runners including the two Aucklanders. Day Guard and Queen Arch, neither of whom were greatly fancied. The winner turned up in the South Island-owned 1 airv Herald, who had run unplaced in sprint events on Wednesday and Thursday. Incidentally Fairy Herald had won the Winter Oats twelve mouths ago at Trentham. Kalos, who created a little trouble at the barrier, actual! v first to begin, but Day Guard soon ran up to him. and following his usual practice, the Aucklander set out to make the pace, leading along the back from Kalos, Fairy Herald and Huikai. There was practically no alteration across the top. except that the rear division be-'an to bunch iip. Day Guard was still bo~wling along in front, turning for home from Huikai and Fairv Herald. Kalo» having dropped out. Once properlv in the straight, ' Campbell took Fairv Herald along, and the South Islander went right away to win easily bv four lengths irom Queen Arch, who 'was* doin<» well from the home turn, and pa-sod ! several horses. Kiimiss was a moderate third.
